Craig flinched when her heard Megan's harsh words she'd left him on his cell. He thought he might be sick. He thought he'd somehow slipped by this. Ugliness.
How did she figure it out, he thought. After all this time. It was almost funny. But not really.
It was complicated. And he knew he was a liar and a manipulator. Call him what ever you wanted. But he'd waited a long time for Keri to be free. And it looked like it could happen now. They were together. Lucas was only three, well, four come late summer.
It felt like he'd held his breath forever. And as it was, well, he thought he'd made it Megan's idea to break up with him. It was all for the best. No one got hurt.
No one got hurt. He had to keep looking at it that way. At least no one got hurt yet.
He'd hate to think how Keri would feel about this, because she didn't exactly know everything about Megan. Yeah, she knew he needed a cover. And it was completely on the up and up. But then, he'd gotten back at Keri. He guessed. Well, Megan was his girlfriend. He didn't want her to think he was gay or something. He had to be with her. He had too.
It was just he'd had a lot on his mind all this time. You know, being with a married woman who had his kid. There was a lot of turmoil. And yeah, he'd taken a lot out on Megan in the long run. But he wasn't like that anymore. Megan was going to be fine. She was. She just didn't know it, yet.
