Smed felt goosebumps when he read Caitlin's letter. He still wasn't sure what this Derrick was all about. But he promised not to say anything to Megan. Which meant, did he tell Caitlin about Megan?
Possibly not. As it was, he had no idea how long this might last with Megan. Was it just a passing phase? He thought of all the pictures she had of Craig in her room. He didn't see her taking pictures of them together. What was he (Smed) to her, anyway? The in betweener.
He felt a little sad. He hated the fact that he'd suddenly found himself right there with Megan. The afternoons. Through the nights. She stayed at his place. A lot.
"I don't know why you don't move in." He'd said one morning when she decided to go.
"You know, I can't do that." She'd messed with the curls on the top of his head as if he might as well be a new puppy she didn't want in her house.
"Yeah, of course not." He thought he might be sick. Wishing this wasn't addictive. Why couldn't they have what his brother and his girlfriend had? Of course, his brother had known Molly since high school.
He knew deep down Megan didn't want anyone to think they were together. He had to remember that if he wanted this time with her. Because, he had an inkling, she'd find something perfect for her life by the end of summer.
