Smed was happy to have such a laid back job. Time to study. Usually, but he felt he was away from everything. Actually. Wasn't like he could have a conversation with Sammi now. Especially, if Megan was right there in the morning, or at lunch. It wasn't that he wanted to be alone with her. He just wanted to know if she were all right.
It had been so strange when he went to Derrick's room for her. It had been quite easy. He'd expected a fight. A yelling match, at least. Then campus cops and him with out a job. But that hadn't happened. Smed hoped he never had to do a thing like that, again. He wished he hadn't so much to think on. Maybe he didn't want to think about classes.
And then one morning, his brother showed up with Molly.
"What did you do? Drive all night?" He couldn't believe it.
"No, we wanted to make sure Megan wasn't starving you." His brother was all grins and gave him a big bear hug. He'd brought Omaha steaks and burgers too.
Smed was in shock. He thought Dolby was mad at him. But his brother had got a better job in maintenance at a big hotel and was doing really well now. He and Molly had decided to get married.
"Baby brother, you're gonna be an uncle!" His brother was jumping around as if he'd never been happier. Smed just grinned. He couldn't believe it. He'd always thought his brother never wanted to start a family.
Smed looked at Molly, wondering just how far along she was.
"The baby's not due til March." Molly told him. He hugged her too.
"So you have to come home for Thanksgiving." Dolby informed him. "We're getting married then."
"Well, I guess I'll just have too." Smed hoped his smile was slipping because, he' really wanted to spend Thanksgiving with Zeke's family.
