Derrick thought it would take all day for the turkey to cook at Sammi's. It was a bit clumsy. He almost lost the turkey on the floor when it came out of the oven. That was about the time, the extra guests arrived. Some jock Caitlin knew and his little brother, Logan.
"What the fuck do they want?" Some nerve Caitlin had. He could say what he wanted now, with just her in the kitchen. He didn't care what she knew of him now.
"Well, I didn't really think you'd be here.' She was down right evil now, he thought. So short and sweet, but every word was like a power punch to the head. It left him without a smile. In his head, he thought they might be engaged by now. She was everything he wanted. She was a good listener for starters. And the cutest smile ever. He sighed. He hadn't had that much fun with anyone since her. It was so comfortable. Now she made him squirm. Derrick wanted to tell her he couldn't possibly work under these conditions. He could very well see that she didn't want him to have a thing to do with Sammi.
He got busy with the dinner. Wasn't she suppose to make mashed potatoes? Naturally, she'd stayed in her room, reading magazines in those big thick nerdy glasses of hers. And that boyfriend of hers waited on her as if she were a princess of some kind.
It really was the worst Thanksgiving ever, but the turkey tasted amazing.
