Sammi thought she might lose it when she saw Mia there. She acted as if she didn't know her. Why was she here? She wasn't going to dare ask if she were going to move back in. As it was, she was all lovey dovey with the Asian dude. She forgot his name. Mia was stuck to him like glue.
Well, she'd show her. She squeezed Logan's hand tightly, but he gave her an instant yelp as if she were killing him so she let go. Instead she had her eyes on Noel. There he was just playing on and on with the piano. He was a one man show, but she squeezed in on the bench and whispered in his ear if he knew Heart and Soul.
"WHY YES, I DO." He grinned as if he were on automatic. He scooted to one end of the bench and started the tune while she waited to start the scale F with the white and black keys. Sammi smiled then. She remembered what she was doing. She smiled at him. She wasn't thinking about Mia not even Logan.
She hadn't meant to be pushy with him. It was like they just didn't have anything fluid between them. She guessed. Perhaps, she just couldn't inspire it. Why was she like this? She felt so dull and boring, and yet something thrilled her to discover she remembered the notes to an old song that she used to play with her Dad so long ago when she was just a little girl. It was the first song they had learned to play together.
Oh, she knew she'd never be Mia. She didn't want to be. But why was it, she always felt she had to have her approval, or she had to be the listener. The one who had to assure Mia that she was fabulous. While all along, Mia never did those things for anyone. She took what she wanted and everyone was suppose to be her audience.
The music kept going as Noel played on. She followed his lead. For the first time, she really felt OK just being who she was, and then he kissed her.
