It took three different argument to realize they might be perfect for each other. Sammi supposed. Maybe.
"No..maybe. Its true." Derrick would put it to the test. He was ready. "Lets just get married."
She just looked at him. There in the car in the drive way, back at her house. Her phone rang again. Naturally another call from her mom.
"What? I'm not a fool." She hugged herself tight. "How can I trust you? Seriously?" They might as well be back to square one, but then he leaned over and kissed her. She got a little teary eyed. They said their good-byes. Yes, it could be love. But did she really know? Really?
Sammi got out of the car and ran up the steps, gave Derrick one last longing look and went inside. It was the wee hours of the morning, two days later.
There was Smed on the couch, waiting for her.
"Where is everybody?" She looked at him suspiciously.
"At the hospital." He kept his arms crossed. No questions about where she'd been or what had happened.
"What happened?" She winced, hoping megan broke something like a leg or an arm. But she guessed she'd be home by now. Maybe she got in a carwreck. Sammi looked at him wide-eyed. This had to be bad as quiet as Smed was.
She saw he'd been crying. She sat down next to him.
"Its Caitlin." He could barely croak. She'd lost the baby.
"oh no." She could barely say herself. Her throat was instantly in pain. She shook her head, no.
"She'll be OK." He didn't sound all that hopeful.
"What about Zeke?" Sammi blinked tears.
"He hasn't left her side." Smed frowned, and the palms of his hands reached to wipe his thick tears away.
Sammi had never felt so ill. "Its all my fault, isn't it?"
Smed remained silent.
"Isn't it?" She asked once more, but he wouldn't answer her.
