"Have you thought about being a short order cook?" Randi was pleased with the over easy eggs that Noel made for her. Still she wished he didn't insist on the whole wheat toast, but she'd already buttered it and bit into it. She slathered some peanutbutter and strawberry jam on it too.
"I hate fast food." Noel didn't see the point.
"But you're so fast." Sometimes, it was like that. He had no idea what she was talking about. She knew.
"Look, I have this interview today..and..and I'm hoping its going to work out." He told her about a school.
"Maybe you should mention me." She got situated at the dining table with her food.
"I don't think so. Not where I'm going." Noel made a silly face.
"Why not? They should be happy to get someone who's gonna be a dad." She got busy with the eggs before they were cold.
"Well, it would be a different story if..if we were married." Noel squinted.
"What do you mean?" She didn't understand.
"Its one of those schools where marriage is pretty important." He nodded.
"Huh? Well, then maybe you should get married." Randi shrugged.
"You mean us?" Noel stopped what he was doing, getting his backpack ready.
"Guess so." She was eating more jam on her toast now. It was an instant sugar high.
"You guess so?" He squinted hard.
"Yeah." She squinted.
"We'll talk about it later.." There was a peculiar look on his face that Randi had never seen before. She watched him leave. She was certain now. Noel had commitment issues.
