"Wow, I haven't seen snow like this in ages?" Alfie was being his silly self, playing in the snow. He didn't even have gloves, but doing his best to start a snowball fight. Natalie pretty much knew he was too funny for his own good, sometimes.
"Well, come on." Natalie had to urge him along before they missed the bus to the mall. He was like herding a lost puppy that didn't want to come inside.
Alfie was taller than the last time she saw him, but he still had a massive head of curls and was as geeky as he ever was. His smile was broad, a lot like his nose. Still, she wasn't sure why he was here even if she was sort of happy to see him.
"How's your Mom and Dad?" Natalie asked once they were seated.
"Fine." He didn't smile when she asked.
"What's going on, Alfie?" Natalie looked at him as if he needed to explain to her a few things.
"Nothing." He shook his head. His expression was more sad than usual. It was true, Alfie's face was so expressive. He couldn't really hide anything from her.
"I wish you would tell me, what's up? I want to help you." She told him.
"Then..then..let me sleep in your dorm room." He'd slept in the commons last night.
"I can't do that." She scowled.
Alfie pressed his lips tight.
"Look, maybe you could stay at my boyfriend's while you're here." Natalie couldn't think of anywhere else.
"Boyfriend?" He looked at her as if she was joking.
"Yes, I told you about him, earlier?" Had he conveniently forgotten? What in the world was she to do with Alfie? It was almost Christmas.
