"All right..." Caitlin shut the door behind her. She was in Smed's room. She'd have his full attention, one way or another. She decided. "Lets get this over with."
Of course, Smed was on the phone with Natalie. He looked at her a bit alarmed. But he quickly said good-bye and looked at Caitlin as if he really wasn't expecting her.
"We have to talk." Caitlin was serious. She'd been thinking about this for days now. Perhaps weeks.
"About what?" Smed looked as if he'd had a memory loss of some kind. He was holding on to his cell as if he might press a button just to connect to Natalie.
"You know ...what?" She squinted. "Us."
"Well..." He put some thought into it. "You...you are my brother's girlfriend."
"Not anymore." She squinted as if that was no answer. "You said you loved me. Always have..and..and..." Did she need to point it out to him..? They had a moment. It was a moment. There was no doubt about that.
"OK..yes...I love you." Smed admitted ever so painfully. "But its too late, Cait. Its just..too late."
"No..it not." Her eyes were open wide as if she could see this a whole lot more clearly than he could. She took his hands as if he really did want this as much as she did. Although, he looked as if he were disgusted with himself. He shook his head, no.
"I'll break Natalie's heart. And I can't do that. I just can't." He shook his head, but she hugged him. He embraced her too. "What about Zeke?" He melted into tears then. Seriously, she wondered if he'd ever man up.
