Smed couldn't help it. He was glad Timo brought his dog. It had been ages since having a dog around. And immediately, he was smitten with Izzy.
"Don't you just love her?" He asked while Izzy was dragging him along on a walk with Sammi.
"Well, I guess..she's..OK." Sammi was timid around the 100 pound dog. She wore Smed's sweater in the sweet damp night. Here it was warm and humid. Fireworks still popping in the aftermath of the holiday. They'd cooked out for the 4th. Zeke and Randi came over and his mother and Sheila helped celebrate too.
"You just have to get to know her." Smed bit a grin. He was glad Timo would let him take Izzy for a walk. "Timo's really good with her. It shows. She's a good dog. She's not going to hurt you." He told Izzy to heel and she did. She let Sammi touch her forehead.
Sammi smiled like a little girl as she petted Izzy.
"Have..have you even ..talked to Megan?" Sammi looked at Smed as if that were a touchy subject too.
"What's to talk about?" He shrugged.
"I dunno, I just thought..maybe.."
"What?" Smed grinned. "We don't talk anymore. I want her ..to be here, for Caitlin."
"We've got that wedding, you know." Smed grinned.
Sammi nodded, as she let him walk the dog once again.
"So what do you think of Timo?" Sammi asked as she hugged herself.
"You know, I really thought I'd hate him. But, I think he's just lost, and I know how that feels." Sadness suddenly filled Smed up. He was glad Sammi was here with him. Otherwise, he'd feel totally lost.
