Alfie wasn't really sure if they were friends or not, but he was the only one up at this time getting ready for his nanny job and there was Caitlin coming in from a jog.
"Isn't this kind of early..for a jog?" Alfie winced as he was waiting for the coffee. He put slices of the left over celebration cake in a sandwich container to take to Paul. It was after all, closer to four than five in the morning. And it was so dark out. And cold. A brisk north wind was reeking havoc on the leaves.
"I couldn't sleep anyway." She sort of smiled.
"Oh, do you do this, every morning?" Alfie winced thinking he might make a point of noticing more. Just in case she didn't come in, on time.
"I just run when I feel like it." She pulled off her snug woolen cap and scarf. But she was in her running clothes. Light on warmth.
"Aren't you freezing?" He shivered at the thought of attempting to go on his scooter.
"Its exhilaration." She promised.
Alfie shivered more as he poured himself a cup of coffee. He poured her some too. Of course, she wanted it only black. He definitely needed sugar and milk in his. He put some Poptarts in the toaster too.
"I guess it was pretty hard seeing Hattie, last night..with Timo." Caitlin sat at the counter on a stool warming her hands on the mug of hot coffee.
"I dunno. I'm pretty used to it. Now. After all, I was the one who told her to leave me, alone." Alfie wasn't sure what to say about Hattie. A part of him still wanted to be her friend, but maybe they couldn't be friends.
"Megan is really disgusted with him. I hope he won't do anything bad to her." Caitlin told him.
"Bad..as in?" Alfie winced.
"Well, she won't actually talk about it, but I think he drugged her and Derrick, too." Caitlin finally spilled.
"Are you serious?" Alfie winced hard. Suddenly, he felt as if he were ill, just the thought of it. How could Hattie even think of wanting to be around him? He didn't want to worry, but he couldn't help it.
The Poptarts were ready. He set them out to share. At first Caitlin wouldn't. But when he broke his in two, she took the other to munch on.
