"I want to know, everything." Gavin informed Caitlin who was helping him with the dishes in the kitchen. They were almost done. He was helping dry what was left, and she was showing him where things went.
"Everything?" She didn't sound up for that.
"Who's Natalie?" He quickly pointed out that no one really said that much about her. "Did she used to live here?"
"No. She is Smed's old girlfriend." Caitlin shrugged.
"Oh, she doesn't look that old." Gavin smiled as he pointed to the cabinet with a mixing bowl he was holding, which needed to be put away. She opened a cabinet and he placed it on the shelf that she pointed to. She couldn't reach it anyway.
"Yeah, I guess." Caitlin didn't look so pleased that he'd mentioned this. "I guess its my fault they broke up."
"Wow," Gavin cleared his throat. "I have to watch out for you, you....home-wrecker."
"She never lived here." Caitlin said so softly. Gavin could hardly hear. He guessed it was a bad joke he hadn't meant to bother her with.
"So what happened, between you and Smed?" Gavin wanted to know.
"Not a thing." She dried more dishes and put them away as if she needed to go to her room and be away from everyone.
Gavin washed the pots, thinking he didn't know how to get out of this awkward quietness. Of course, he wondered what Timo was up to with Hattie. After all, she'd gone to the basement with him.
