Sammi was unexpectedly surprised. She didn't know Smed had this in mind on their trip while at his brother's.
Of course, it was quite a visit at Dolby's. Lots of food and drink. His wife was the happy sort and she was fond of Smed, making all his favorite foods. She was the inside source of telling her what Smed liked in his mac n' cheese.
Thankfully, they had some time alone. He'd taken her to all his old haunts. Where he went to school. The sandwich shop where he used to work. Even the library.
And then he made it official with an engagement ring. They'd looked at the mall, but if she didn't mind, he really wanted her to find an engagement ring at the jewelry store on main street. Someone he used to go to high school with took over his father's shop.
Of course, Ben was married already with two little kids. He got out all sorts of diamonds. Rings too. Sammi felt more dazed than ever, but somewhere in all those rings was just what she wanted. It was small, but perfect.
Now she wore it proudly on the trip home.
"You, think we'll have a New Year's Eve party this year?" She asked.
"I dunno. We should go out, but I'm going to be so tired. Still, we should." Smed nodded as he held her hand and gazed at the ring.
"Yeah, we should do something with everyone." Sammi guessed Caitlin was with Gavin now. But she felt certain Alex and Logan would be moving out soon. They might not all be together the coming year. It was a sad thought. Still, it was great to be moving forward. She bit her bottom lip in delight of what the new year might bring.
