should have, gonna, already

"Have you called Mom?" Gavin's words stung Timo, but then again, he should have expected it. However, he didn't think his brother would be buying Lifesavers and lip balm, either.

"What are you, doing here?" Timo rang him up. His shift wasn't quite over at the Dollar General. Gavin grabbed a Snickers bar, last minute.

"I just wanted to see how you were doing." He shrugged standing there in his work clothes. He was bigger and so much better than Timo.

"I'm fine." He glared at Gavin.

"You should call Mom." Gavin insisted as he gave Timo the change.

"Why? We don't know anything, yet." Was Gavin trying to give him a heartattack? It was probably the flu with Hattie. And he'd be sick by the end of the week. End of story.

"But you're going to call her, when you find out." Gavin stared at him as if he better do the right thing.

"Yes." He said ever so dramatic giving Gavin his change. But he really didn't intend to. Why would she want to know? About Hattie. That was his first thought. Timo did mention Hattie to her when he called during the holidays. More or less to let her know he was fine.

Why was it still so hard to talk to the only mother he knew? He loved her, but he couldn't tell her. The words evaporated the instant he meant to tell her. Instead words like "Sure" and "Of course" came instead.

Now, to talk about a baby. It would definitely mean her telling his father..which would gradually mean, "Told you what would become of him."

He didn't want to be a bother, but he knew he was. He was still a bother.

"I bet she'd be out here on the next flight, if you asked her." Gavin looked so innocent like a big teddy bear.

"I'm not asking her." Timo winced. It was then he realized, Gavin already asked her to come out here.
