Alfie wasn't sure what Timo was getting at. Here they were alone in the kitchen. Possibly, the only place he ever saw Timo. And there was Izzy with him. He talked to her for a bit. She practically jumped on top of him. The big dog was happy to get the attention.
"I think she likes you. She trusts you." Timo told him.
"I guess." Alfie shrugged. He'd taken Izzy out for a walk or two. They'd spent some summer nights in the pool together. She liked to catch the frisbee at the park when Paul tagged along.
"Could you..." He looked sad about it. "Could you take her?"
"Me?" Alfie looked at him as if Timo must be joking.
"Things are changing. Its just different." Timo told him he was certain they couldn't all be in one room with a baby on the way. "Besides, she really hates sleeping on the floor."
"Oh." Alfie hadn't thought about sleeping with a dog. "Huh."
"She's really good. Honestly, she so devoted. She's really loyal...and she's not going to lick you in the face in the morning." Timo promised.
"I dunno." Alfie wasn't sure he could be a guy with a dog.
"It would really help so much, if..if you took her. I'd help out with the food. She eats two cans of food a day. One in the morning. One in the evening." He made it sound so easy. But there was the walking and making sure she went to the bathroom at certain times a day. "She needs someone like you."
"Well..." Alfie shrugged. "We'll see how it goes." He guessed it wouldn't hurt. But as far as Alfie was concerned, Izzy would always be Timo's dog.
