"You didn't really want to spend the night in the hospital on Valentines day, did you?" Derrick's question sounded so genuine and heart felt. But Megan placed her hands on the basket ball she might as well have been caring inside her and nodded a yes.
"I want this over with." She insisted. She knew she sounded pissed and any other time she would have loved the dozen red roses. "I'd really planned on this baby being here by now."
"Its not coming by UPS. You, can't just rush it." Derrick placed the heart shaped cheese pizza on the kitchen counter. Megan made a face of dislike.
"See, maybe that's a good sign. You're not hungry." He smiled, but he was hungry so he took a slice of pizza.
She made her way over to the couch. She was in her comfortable black leggins and baggy gray sweater and soft gray slipper boots. She was miserable. No doubt about it.
"I just don't know what to expect. I'm so tired of being scared." She gritted, thinking this was the worst Valentines day, ever.
"Do you hurt anywhere?" Derrick asked, although, he'd rather eat the pizza.
"No." She swelled a frown and looked at him as if he better stop with the questions.
"Well, is the baby moving?" He wanted to know.
She shrugged. Not really. Of course, now it bugged her. Was that good or bad?
"Maybe, maybe we should just go to the hospital. You know, to be sure." She nodded as if she'd need a check up.
"Can I eat first?" He wanted to finish his pizza.
"Go, ahead, I want a shower." She said all calmly, but in the next breath she informed him no way was she waiting for him to finish his slice of pizza. She wanted to go now.
"OK, OK." He put down the pizza. "We'll go to the hospital." He ran after her, putting on his coat.
She texted Caitlin while waiting for the elevator.
"What are you doing?" Derrick winced.
"I'm telling her. We're going to the hospital." She informed him.
Derrick looked at her as if she was ruining Caitlin's night.
"I wish I knew what we were doing," Derrick said once they got in the elevator.
Suddenly, it was as if the earth moved. Megan smiled. Yes, they were going down, but something else was starting to stir.
Yes, she felt a contraction. She was full of laughter even if it was a harsh pain in her lower back.
"What did it feel like?" Derrick wanted to know.
"You know," she couldn't help but smile more. She was ready to do this. She could do this. "Maybe like..good sex."
"Huh." He didn't quite believe her.
She started to laugh, but another contraction stiffened her lower back as if she better shut her mouth. She had no idea what she was talking about. Yes, it hurt. She might really need drugs to get through the night.
