"I don't know what to say?" Liza hadn't expected for Alfie to show up unannounced, with a picnic basket. "You should have called." She said in the next breath. She was not ready for this. She needed time to prepare. Didn't she?
"You, look fine." Alfie looked at her blankly. She'd just gotten home from work in her Zoo polo shirt and waist hugging jeans.
"I can't go like this?" She glared at him as if these heavy shoes alone would weigh her down. She needed something whimsical. And that might take some time to find in her closet.
"I don't care what you wear." He smiled.
She sort of wished he did. She looked at him as if that was the wrong answer.
"Just..put on one of those dresses, you always wear." He nodded then as if that alone would make her feel better. He made it sound as if she had one for all occasions, or maybe the same style of dress for every day of the week. Maybe she did.
"Just..just give me a minute." She held up her index finger as if he might be at the library and he needed to remain totally silent while she went to change.
"Well, hurry up. I got us boneless chicken from KFC." He told her. "I want to take you some place in my car."
She went to her room and pushed off the heavy black orthopedic shoes as quick as she could. She was afraid they were hurting her arches. Next went the pants, and the polo shirt.
She caught herself looking in the dresser mirror. How hideous. She was in her granny panties and white cotton bra. Well, she didn't have anything sexy. Why was she worrying about this now?
She was sure he'd think she was deformed if he caught sight of her.
Liza went to her closet then and jerked down a light weight gray V neck tunic. Her legs were so thin and long. She hurried to put on some black leggins and slipped into her favorite black glittery TOMS slippers.
She smiled at how comfortable she felt in her favorite shoes.
"Wow." Alfie smiled when she came back. "You left your hair down." He smiled more. "And you're showing off your legs too." He reminded her.
"I should really do something with my hair." She never left it down.
"Come on, its beautiful." He told her.
"Its a mess." She informed him.
"I don't think so." He shrugged. He motioned for her to come with him. They were going for a drive.
