"Just what is she trying to do to me!" Timo was at his wits end. No Hattie. And her phone was on the dresser. He was ready to scream, but there was no one to scream at.
He heard the front door and hurried up the basement stairs quick. It was only Gavin.
"She's not with you?" He glared at Gavin as if he should know where Hattie was.
"Who?" Gavin winced slightly as Caitlin followed him in.
"Hattie's gone." He was holding her phone. "She didn't even take this with her." He said more frantic than he meant too, but there were weird things happening on the news, and he didn't want anything bad to happen to her.
"Just slow down." Gavin rested his hands on Timo shoulders to calm him. "Don't think the worst." Gavin wanted him to start at the beginning.
Timo took a deep breath. He'd came home about thirty minutes ago from work. About then Alfie came through the kitchen door, he wanted to know what was wrong.
"Where's Hattie?" Timo looked at him, thinking Alfie would be the last person she would be with.
Naturally, Alfie shrugged and went to help Caitlin with dinner.
"Why did I even ask?" Timo gritted. "She doesn't do things like this." He squinted hard as if he couldn't bare it if anything awful happened. He looked at Gavin as if he was suppose to have the magic touch.
"Do you want us get in the truck and drive around?" Gavin asked.
"All right." Timo bit his bottom lip, contemplating to call 911.
They didn't get out the door because Hattie opened it, and she was with Liza.
"THANK GOD!" Timo hugged her before she could take another step. "Where have you been?" He hugged her again.
"I'm all right." But she had a limp.
"No, you're not." He made it to the livingroom couch with her. He scolded her about not having her phone. What was she thinking?
Hattie just smiled. She thanked Liza for all her help. "I wanted to go to the zoo."
"You walked to the zoo?" He looked at her as if she better stop having these crazy ideas, as he took off her shoes.
But she wasn't even looking at him, Hattie was watching Alfie and Liza.
