Here we are

 

Kyle couldn't help but smile even more when they got to Hope's new place. It was nothing he remembered as low-income housing while growing up. It was in a high-rise and the walls were solid. Not a peep from the neighbors. He looked around at the empty spaces imaging where a couch would go or a table.

Hope was on the phone with Megan. "We've decided to live together."

"What, you're moving in with Frankie?" Kyle could hear Megan's voice from here.

"No, Kyle is moving in with me," Hope's voice was calm, perhaps monotone.

"Kyle?"

Kyle couldn't help but crack up laughing as he looked at Hope who quietly said, "We're together."

"Together?" 

Kyle shook more with laugher. He put his arms around Hope from behind and kissed her neck and behind the ear.

"Not now," Hope whispered, but he breathed in her ear anyway. 

"Tell us where you are, we want to help," Megan's very words made Kyle realize what a friend Megan was. It was good that she wanted to help.

"That's all right, we can do it," Hope told her.

"You don't even have a bed," Megan said. "Text me your address. Let me buy you a bed."

"No, you won't."

"Yes, I will," she insisted. "You'll need a queen size. Is the bedroom big enough for a queen?"

Kyle only laughed in Hope's ear. Soon enough she was laughing too. She clicked off even though Megan had a ton of questions.

"I shouldn't have told her," She was in a fret as she looked to Kyle.

"Like how long were you going to keep it a secret?" He asked. "It's like ripping off a bandaid. It'll be OK."

She sighed with a nod. They looked out the huge windows of the apartment. It was quite a view. Kyle never knew there was so much to see of the city, especially at night. He took her hand. A part of him felt like a king, but he knew it wasn't so. It was being with Hope that mattered the most. They could have moved into a shack for all he cared, but of course, he would only want a better future. Just as he did now.
