I know you well

 "Well, I send money every month," Kim, Mario's dad, looked at him blankly from his hospital bed. 

Mario cringed having to tell his dad about Rico's living conditions. Evidently, Rico's mother was using the money for someone else. 

Still, his dad looked well enough, in spite of so much chemo. He looked as if he could pull himself up and go right to work.

"I'll call my lawyer," Kim nodded but in the next breath. "Rico should stay." He struggled then, but Mario told him he needed rest. 

"Can you take care of him?" There was a stern sincerity about his father. Mario knew his dad would help in any way.

"It'll be fine," Mario nodded. "I know he wants to stay."

"Really," Kim mustered up a smile. "And he wants to be around somebody like me?"

"Oh, Dad, he loves you. We love you." Mario smiled.

"Your sister won't say it." He sounded very certain.

"I'm sure she just can't." Mario knew he didn't have all the answers for his dad.

"So what's our Rico been up to?" Kim wanted to know.

"He found a job, at the skating rink," Mario shrugged. Mario did have to admit he was hoping it would be at a grocery store, perhaps.

"I didn't even know he skated."

"Evidently, pretty well. He likes skateboarding, but I guess that's a forbidden subject back home. They made him sell all that stuff." Mario informed him.

"Well, if he needs one, you know..to get around," his dad looked in his wallet.

"No, he'll need a car, sooner or later."

"A car, do you even have one of those?" His dad laughed.

"You know, you don't like my very airy jeep."

"I don't," his dad mentioned what was he going to do when it got cold.

"I work from home." Mario hugged himself as if he were capable. 

"Get something reliable this time," his dad told him to trade in the old jeep. "Rico can have my old pickup truck. I won't be driving anytime soon."
