Somewhere in the night

 "Shit, I just don't know what to do?" 

Frankie's words made Bea want to slap him. How dare he speak in such a way, but then again, he brought her coffee after midnight down to the hospital. They were outside in the parking lot. She hadn't expected it, but she'd mentioned when she'd be on a break, earlier and here he was with coffee and apple cider donuts.

"Of course, you should go." She shrugged about Hope's invitation while nibbling on a donut.

"But I know she's setting me up." He was stressed and Bea was just tired. 

"That is no way to think about it," She bit into her second donut. God, how she missed these donuts. She only ate them in October but as of late she swore she was on a diet. "Just be nice. You know you will be."

It was funny how they'd continued to text each other, but now he made random visits, like this. It was hard to figure out. After all, he said he was still mad at her. 

Frankie said nothing as if he was a vampire of some kind and only hung out with her in the early morning hours.

"Just remember, you have friends who care about you and you need to appreciate them," she nodded. Of course, she knew she wasn't one of them. After all, she might as well be a ghost. But she was OK with that. It would have to be this or nothing. "You don't have to bring me coffee."

"But you need to get out of there, you know." Frankie made the hospital sound like a death trap.

Just then, she got a text. She was needed somewhere.

"Probably," she nodded. "Only there is no rest for the wicked." She finished off her donut and handed him back what was left of her coffee. "You know, you don't need me for anything."

Of course, he wouldn't say that wasn't true.
