"You need to stop fooling yourself, I know you're scared," Megan said into the phone. It wasn't often that she and Caitlin talked on the phone but after hearing about the baby she knew they had to talk. "Have you even gone to a doctor?"
"God, I can't go right now," Caitlin yelped back. "Everything..is..you know closed..or something like it." She went on a bit how some co-worker practically had her kid at home. The hospitals didn't want to see pregnant people.
"Stop using excuses," Megan told her she had to take care of herself.
"I am." Caitlin claimed, but Megan didn't believe her.
"Are you feeling OK?"
"I'm fine. I'm perfectly fine," but in the next breath she said a potty mouth word and said she was on the floor.
"What happened!" Megan was ready to jump in to action and come to the rescue.
"Oh, Deano opened the bathroom door and almost took my big toe out," she sighed. "I guess I'm OK."
"You better get to urgent care, is it bleeding?"
Caitlin sighed. Megan had to wonder how Caitlin would be for the next nine months.
"I am feeling pretty good," Roman's lips turned up at the ends as he danced around Eddie who was hugging himself pretty hard. He looked at Roman with a squint.
"Oh, don't give me that, I know your folks hate me." He stood in the middle of the kitchen just in his sweatpants. He'd been washing dishes and wondered if they'd be up all night.
"That's all under the bridge," Roman smirked.
"So you say," Eddie sighed.
"Look, if they want to be shitty, let them be shitty," Roman shrugged and put his arm around him. "I do not care anymore."
"But you might need them some day," Eddie was certain he'd ruined Christmas for Roman and his family.
"Oh, it wouldn't matter..they don't give me anything. And even if they did, they do charge interest," Roman told him. "It's fine. We are fine. Don't you get all moody on me. Cause it's New Year's Eve and we are perfectly happy." He looked at him blankly. "If you stop thinking about them."
Eddie was mute. He nodded. He really didn't know what to say. Honestly, he was a quiet person who hadn't done all that much with his life. And to finally find someone. Who knew he could mess up everything so easily.
"Now you just chill," Roman massaged his shoulders. "This is no time to be down and out." He went to get him a cold beer. In fact when Roman gave him the beer and then put his arm around his neck, he drank as if they were in this together.
Eddie took a sip of beer. Yes, if he didn't think about his family then it was all OK. The new year might be the best year yet. It was true. He was thinking too much.
I loved the chapter. Megan is right about the care.

ReplyDeleteCoisas de Feltro
Life goes on! 2022 will be wonderful year for the Caitlin.
ReplyDeleteOh, Caitlin. Part of me is like, yes, get to the doctor already! But another part of me understands exactly how she feels. Being examined makes whatever you've got seem all too real, and if what you've got is a baby, well, then, that's the motherlode.
ReplyDeleteI feel for Eddie, too. You never want to feel like your boyfriend's parents hate you. Especially when you've waited so long for a special someone. I like how Roman lets him know that they're in this together. :)
I love the colorful collages. Is that a Louis Vuitton donut in the second one?! And I was psyched to see not one but two of my florals! :)
