Frankie wanted to talk to Bea about everything. But he wasn't sure where to start. Sure, he wanted to talk about US. Of course, she'd caught him off guard when she asked him to come home with her for the holidays. He decided then he wouldn't. They would just be together. It felt good that she introduced him to her relatives. For the first time, he felt he should introduce her to his friends too.
But then Drew showed up.
"Who is he exactly?" He wanted to know later when they were on the way home. They took a drive to see the Christmas lights. They even drove past the Yoga studio and there was the Heather Doll in a yoga outfit in the window display.
"Oh, you even have her working," Bea laughed as if Heather might actually be real.
"I got tired of her hanging around." He'd shrugged.
"Uh-huh," she smiled at him, but then said. "Maybe this is the best place for her."
Naturally, when he dropped her off she invited him in. Of course, he wasn't sure if that mean she wanted him to stay or not.
She poured some wine and though, he knew he didn't need it. He did want to stay.
"Well, that Drew is Terrence's," Bea said on the second glass of second wine.
"What?" Frankie winced hard. He couldn't believe it. They had a kid together?
"Hold on, wait a minute," she smiled. "Oh, he didn't know about it in the beginning. Drew's mother is one messed up woman, you know." Bea told Frankie she'd taken care of Drew when he was a baby. "We just thought it best if ..if he was in a good family situation so..so a cousin of mine adopted him. I'm just an Aunt to him." She looked as if she was about to cry but she took a sip of wine. "He's like the only thing left of Terrence, you know. And..and sometimes, I really wish I was raising him." She cleared her throat. "He's family."
Frankie nodded. Perhaps relieved, but he felt her pain, as if she didn't think she'd done enough. He drank more wine. Yes, he was staying after all. She wouldn't let him drive home drunk. At least he knew that much. Maybe if he didn't ask too much, everything was fine.
Very nice

Oh, I loved this line: "They even drove past the Yoga studio and there was the Heather Doll in a yoga outfit in the window display." So funny! Also, it shows that Bea and Frankie (and you!) haven't forgotten Heather. It's nice that Bea and Frankie are getting closer. I can see why Frankie would be relieved that Drew isn't Bea's son -- just as I can see why Bea feels that she didn't do enough for Drew.
ReplyDeleteIn the collage, I adore that hot pink bureau. And, as always, those funky lime boots! :)
Yes very difficult decision. To be or not to be a family.
