"Well, of course, I would do it," Roman said over the phone. "Spring break sounds like a good time to do it." He said he remembered there being a place in the park perfect for a wedding.
Eddie looked at Roman as if he didn't know this person. What were they talking about? A wedding? Who was getting married? And in March no less.
He didn't want to be in a huff about it, but he didn't know. Why hadn't Roman told him he might be a preacher or something. He felt he didn't know Roman at all.
"What was that all about?" Eddie wanted to know. He'd finished up the dishes in the kitchen and everything was put away now.
"Oh, Megan and Cori are getting married," he shrugged.
"Megan and Cori?"
"You've met them." Roman winced.
"No, I haven't." Eddie was sure he'd know.
"They have the pizzeria, next to that pub we go to for the pub quiz," Roman shrugged and Eddie just winced. They'd only gone to the pub one time and they met Pixie and Cyrus at Melvin's. He'd never eaten pizza there.
"So who's Melvin?" Eddie wanted to know.
"Cori's best friend," Roman went on to get himself a bottle of water and he got one from the fridge for Eddie too.
Eddie felt he'd asked too many questions. "So when did you start..you know officiating weddings?"
"I don't do it often," Roman cleared his throat. "I had a cousin who wanted me to do it. My mom wasn't pleased about it. Cause she says only preachers are supposed to, you know."
"Did she want you to be a preacher?" Eddie was serious.
Roman cracked up. He practically spilled water on himself and said, "Hell no."

ReplyDeleteThe many sides of Roman! I love the exchange between him and Eddie about him being a wedding officiant:

You have such a flair for funny dialogue!
Thanks for including my floral fabrics and heart barrette in this super cheerful collage! All of the yellow is uplifting, and the cat shirt is cute. :)
Wow, a wedding is in the air. 😍
ReplyDeleteI really like the relationship between Roman and Eddie.
Lovely chapter. Roman is cool. Not the preacher type.
