So many things that you should have done

 "It's a family emergency," Mario had told them at the pizzeria. He might not be back until tomorrow he told Cyrus.

"What happened?" Alex wanted to know.

"Oh..it's Liv."

"Liv?" Alex came from around the counter. The pizza box folding could wait. "Did something happen to Liv?" He knew her. They went to school together he told Mario.

"She's at the police station," Mario mentioned something had happened between her and her brother at the grocery store.

Alex didn't even know Liv had a brother. Of course, she never really said anything about herself. Possibly, he never actually let her tell her/him anything about her family. After all, he/she was the one with the problems, but at the moment they seemed so trivial. 

"What did he do to her?" Alex wanted to know, but Mario didn't say. He was already out the door.

"What's the matter?" Cyrus then asked.

"I'm not sure," Alex felt sad, not being a better friend. "I guess I don't know Liv at all."

"Even if you did, there is only so much you can do," Cyrus went on folding boxes while Pixie was off in the storage room checking off supplies.

"She's..she's like the strongest person I know," Alex then told him. "I've seen her go without lunch before. It was like she didn't even want to eat. I guess. Maybe. I dunno." He tried to laugh it off, thinking back he didn't know if she'd been hungry, but she'd sat there watching him eat lunch and he/she hadn't even asked.

Alex sighed. What kind of person was he/she? Yes, maybe Alex was the most shallow after all. Maybe he/she didn't have any problems at all. 

"I just hope she's OK," he/she said. Alex never asked her if she was OK.
