Let's be frank about Frankie

"I just don't know what he's trying to get out of me," for the first time Bea was trying to figure Frankie out. He had asked about Dr. Alverez. And of course, she only had Andie to turn to. They were on their hospital shift, early on in the evening. The lights gleamed a perfect sanitary essence, making the place so pristine before shit happened usually after midnight.

"What would I know?" She looked at her blankly as she was holding her cup of coffee. She took another sip. "I don't think he likes me. Nor any of your friends for that matter."

"And who's fault is that?" Bea practically wanted to smack that girl in the back of the head, but she didn't. After all, they were on the floor, ready for the next big thing to come through the doors.

Andie looked away as if she knew who was at fault.

"You've always been the biggest butthead, and we still like you," Bea assured her. "I just wish you liked yourself. You got it good with that Teegan. You better behave and you know it."

"Stop making this about me?" Andie gave her a look that she was a fighter, not a lover.

"If you hadn't said what you said..about me.." Bea shook her head. "Hell, why did you make shit up like that?"

"Because..because you know Eva likes you," Andie was as smart-mouthed as ever. Bea crossed her arms and nursed her coffee.

"She liked a good laugh, that's what she wanted," Bea informed her. Hell, if she knew that was flirting. Bea didn't think so. They were only co-workers that seldom worked together. "Do you know how much weight she lost in a year?" She'd seen the before and after pictures. Sure, Eva was proud of herself. Bea found herself laughing. "Look, she thought if she trained me to box I could look just as good as she did."

Bea shook her head. She was happy with herself. No way did she want to be stuck with someone who was trying to form her into their own likeness. Oh, she knew Frankie liked her just the way she was. He told her she was beautiful all the time. Nobody was going to mess that up.

  1. Yes, Bea is right to prefer Frankie who tells her she is beautiful the way she is. This girl Eva who brags about having lost so much weight seems vain to me.

  4. I agree that this is a great title! And Bea and Andie's conversation confirms that Andie is nothing but trouble. But then, Bea knows that: ""You've always been the biggest butthead, and we still like you,"' which speaks to her strength of character. No one's going to turn her head, not Andie or weight-loss vixen Dr. Alvarez. So glad!
