Even when the day is done

 "So what can you tell me about this..this Nonnie?" Nic wanted to know the moment Mona walked through the door. She'd barely put her backpack down. All she wanted was some peace and quiet and to be alone with Nic at his place. 

"Nonnie?" She winced. "What are you talking about?"

"Somebody who works at the coffee shop," Nic said. "I think she's bothering Weezer."

"Like a stalker?" This was the last thing she wanted to hear. She really didn't know who he was talking about.

"She works with Weezer."

"Well, I don't know her," Mona shrugged. She told him she and Jade hurried off to classes as soon as their shift was over.

Nic nodded. "I guess Weezer is not sure what to make of her. Maybe she doesn't like him at all."

"Well, plenty girls like him," Mona said. "He shouldn't have any trouble getting a date."

"Maybe he doesn't want to date," Nic went and got her a drink from the fridge.

"Does anyone date anymore?" She looked at him as if he wasn't asking anyone out, was he?

"Hard times, everywhere," he agreed, as he asked her about classes. "Are you and Jade getting along?"

"Why shouldn't we be?" Now she looked at him a bit hurt. "Maybe you need to come down and see what we're doing." She smirked.

He brought her a brownie then. Of course, she knew she didn't need it, but oh well.

"You just want me around to get me fat so no one will date me," she then told him.

He laughed. "Do you want to go to a movie?"

"A movie?"

"It's a foreign film. There will be subtitles but it only cost two bucks at the Modern Language department," he told her.

"Of course, I'll go." She looked at him blankly. A cheap date was better than no date.
