When Nonnie got the call from Roxanne, she was contemplating going to bed. But she had to finish this book from the library. She didn't think anything was going to actually happen in Heartstoppers volume one. Was she missing something? She winced hoping there was more action in Heartstoppers volume two. Of course, Weezer said there was always the TV show, but that might take some Googling and she really wasn't up for that. So it was a relief when Rox called, but then all she heard was Rox breathing.
"Hello! Hell-O" Nonnie demanded.
"I..I..something happened to Pan," Roxanne's voice wasn't stable. Nonnie couldn't imagine what had happened. Had some thug killed Pan?
"Will be right there!" Nonnie yelped back and they were. Both of them (Weezer and Nonnie) went barefoot to see what the problem was.
"Oh, God," Weezer saw him before Nonnie did. Nonnie wasn't sure she even wanted to see this, but a part of herself couldn't help but want to know. There Pan was in the middle of the apartment just laying there so still.
"What happened?" Nonnie grabbed both of Rox's shoulders and shook her. She was practically a ragdoll and reeked of alcohol.
"I'm calling an ambulance."
"No." Rox managed to say. "He wouldn't want that." She shook her head, no.
Nonnie sighed and went to bang on Jade and Mona's door. Thankfully, Ari was there. He'd know what to do. Of course, he thought they should call the ambulance too and he did.
Nonnie and Jade got Rox to settle on the couch with a bottle of water, which was from Jade's. Rox was shaking and mumbling something.
Of course, right before the medics arrived, Pan woke up. He said he was fine.
"No, you're not," Ari told him. "You're going to the ER."
Pan just blankly looked at everyone and laid back down and closed his eyes. It was so strange. Maybe I just imagined it, thought Nonnie.
"They were just playing around," Ari was the one who filled in the officer about the situation. Nonnie did manage to say Rox had called her. Of course, Rox didn't say much of anything. They went on with him to the hospital and Ari said he and Jade would take Rox to the hospital.
"Can you call his mother?" He looked to Rox who shook her head, no.
"Could you do it, Nonnie?" He shrugged.
"If I can find her number."
Rox kept shaking her head, no, but Weezer found the number on the fridge.
"Are you sure?" Nonnie thought he was just saying stuff now.
"It says, Pan's Mom." He took the sticky note off the fridge and went to dial the number on his phone.

Oh my, I don't like the mention of ER, ambulance, people on the floor.
ReplyDeleteI wish Pan well!
Oh no I think my comment disappeared. Anyway- nice of Ari to step up. I hope they were just, you know, drinking and it isn't more serious
ReplyDeleteWow. I'm glad that Pan seems to be coming to. But I have a feeling that there's a whole host of other drama on the way! I like how the whole crew pulled together to help. Also, the "There's bravery in being "soft" " quote in the collage. ππ§‘ππππ
ReplyDeleteAs always, thanks so much for your comments! That must be really challenging (and also maybe entertaining?) hearing from your friend in PA. No wonder she inspires some of your stories!
