Something's gotta get through

Why was Liv making such a big deal about this? Rico hadn't thought there would be this big of a riff when he helped Sammie.

"God, you'd think we slept together or something," Rico looked at her with his eyes so big with seriousness.

"Don't even go there!" She thought they were too close.

"She needed someone in her corner," Rico shouted back. They were in his pickup truck in the grocery store parking lot, ready for their afternoon shift. "I don't like the way Mario treated her."

"Oh really?" Liv shot back as if she was mad at the world. She hugged herself hard as if she'd had enough of this.

Rico only sighed.

"You're just making excuses now," he couldn't help but say. "Sammie really loves Gabe."

"She is not your sister!" Liv looked at him wide-eyed with anger.

"Look, she's not close to her own family. She needs us," he begged to differ. Liv rolled her eyes at that. "She's not that much different from you, you know."

"What!" Liv winced hard as if she couldn't take another moment of this conversation. She got out of the truck and made her own way alone to the grocery store.

Rico sat in the truck and hit the stirring wheel with the palm of his fist. It felt as if this was the end. He hoped it wasn't true because he knew she needed him. She was his family just as much as Sammie was family too.

  1. Sometimes, family members make it hard on those who care about them and want to help . Sad.
