I like myself better when I don't pay attention to anyone else

 "You're not as helpful as you think you are," Caitlin snapped. Finally, she got some alone time with Megan who was always stuck to Cori, or so it looked that way through Caitlin's eyes.

"What do you mean?" Naturally, Megan was in the middle of something for her school work. She'd been hired by a local elementary school to help with online curriculums. Her days were full of Facetimes and Zoom meetings lately. Caitlin envied her all the more. It was as if Megan had her act together and she didn't even have to work at it.

"Why did you tell Dylan he could be an electrician?" Caitlin wanted to know.

"Why can't he?"

Caitlin shook her head. No way could Megan possibly understand. If only Dylan would have gone to live in a more supportive community. BUT NO. He refused. It made Caitlin a bit feverish thinking about it. Of course, if he'd gone to that sort of life, she doubted she would know him at all now. And seriously, she wanted to be in his life even if they kept bickering all the time.

Caitlin didn't want to get into it with Megan, but then again she had brought it up. It was good that Megan only saw Dylan as the guy that he was. Caitlin hated to change that. And she knew she couldn't change his mind. He was set on getting a better salary.

"What? You don't want a new co-worker? Is that it?" Megan asked as if she was on a totally different page than Caitlin who looked at her blankly. Caitlin hadn't thought this through. 

"Don't say that," Caitlin's frown was small. She didn't like change. Dylan was her work husband. Who could replace him? "Why did you have to say that? Why?"

Caitlin felt a panic attack coming on. She went to her room and slammed her door shut. She fell into bed and wanted to cry. Except, the tears were dry and she wasn't sure if she was ready to meet someone better than Dylan, but what if they were?
