setting it in stone

Megan was showing Caitlin the beds on Amazon. She'd offered to buy them a new bed.

"Really, we can do that," Deano hadn't expected Megan's generosity. Besides, he didn't like owing people.

She and Cori invited them over for dinner. It felt almost like a holiday. He'd brought brownies without pot even if Caitlin kept teasing him that he should put in a little, but he didn't.

"It's not a problem," Megan assured him. "I have this giftcard on Amazon I need to use up."

He looked at her blankly wondering if she'd won some sort of lottery. She asked how big the bed needed to be.

"Well, we're in his twin bed right now," Caitlin admitted looking back at him as if he should have already done something about it.

Deano looked at her as if she was really putting him on the spot, but he hated to explain that he thought she might have moved back home by now.

"A regular will do," she then said to Megan. "We aren't fat polar bears yet."

Deano bit a grin not sure what else to say. Was he that pathetic? Did she think he was making her fat? She loved mac and cheese and grilled peanut butter sandwiches.

Deano took a peek at the industrial-style bed frame that held a mattress.

"Don't you think that'll do?" Caitlin looked at Deano and got a nod. The price was nice. He was certain he could afford that on his credit card.

Megan got down their address and ordered it.

Deano didn't know what to think. Caitlin's roommate was being terribly nice and Cori looked on. He brought coffee to be served with the brownies.

"So, you went to high school around here?" Cori asked.

"I didn't go in the city," Deano said he grew up in the burbs and he had an older brother who still lived there. Although, Drew did work in the city in banking.

"Where's Tori?" Caitlin said out of the blue once she was settled with creamed coffee and her own brownie while sitting practically in  Deano's lap.

"She's at Dylan's." Megan said as she sipped on her coffee. "She found out she doesn't have COVID."

  1. She finally got a bigger bed to sleep in, thanks to her unconditional friend. That's good news for Cori!😄

    1. Sometimes, we might no know who our real friends are until a decade or so later, which might be the case with Caitlin. And poor Deano..oh..well..we shall see.

  4. The bed makes a comeback! No wonder they needed a new one if Deano's was only a twin! That was funny and also kind of sad. As was the part about Caitlin maybe getting too fat from mac and cheese and grilled peanut butter and needing an even bigger bed. But the most interesting part was when Deano revealed (at least in his thoughts) that he hasn't gotten a bigger bed yet because he thought Caitlin would have moved back home. I was like, whoa, this is not the devoted Deano that Caitlin described! Oh, well, I guess we shall see. :)
