Hope hadn't expected all the help. After all, she really had nothing. But Caitlin and Deano showed up with their friend Roman (as well as he was Kyle's friend from the coffee shop) and brought in a dining set. It was small for two but she'd never imagined she'd really need it, until now.
"Oh, you shouldn't have," she didn't want to owe them. After all, she didn't even have a glass of water to offer them.
The new bed arrived, and she had plenty of help with the guys to put it up.
The other items were used. Some were pieces, she and Kyle had found at a nearby thrift place for their wardrobe and livingroom, like shelves. It was getting situated. Megan and Cori brought groceries.
Possibly, Deano was getting rid of furniture his parents didn't need anymore. He and Roman brought in a small couch.
Of course, Kyle did have his TV and entertainment center. He had other devices to so they'd be connected to the internet and of course Netflix and YouTube. What more could they want?
"But, have you done anything for a nursery yet?" Caitlin and Megan wanted to know.
Hope shook her head, no. Would it be so awful if the baby stayed in a laundry basket those first few weeks? Honestly, she didn't want to think about it. What if something bad happened and this whole move would be for nothing.
She couldn't let herself be depressed about it. She needed to move on, yet she knew she'd be lost without her friends. The thought of becoming a mother did make her feel dizzy. Honestly, she didn't know what to expect.
Then one more visitor arrived. It was Frankie, and he brought a crib to set up.
"I knew you'd forget about this," he smiled. He reminded her it was the one she'd been eyeing on Amazon but said it was too expensive. He'd gotten it weeks ago.
"Oh," suddenly she felt frazzled. She needed to sit, or maybe walk. It was as if someone was trying to tell her something as a pain struck her right under her boob. Hope winced.
Of courses, everyone wanted to know what was wrong. She shook her head. It was only a kick, but it felt as if that certain someone was only stretching.
"Maybe you need to get it checked out," Kyle said.
She shook her head, no. But no one liked that answer. They got her bag together as if this was her time. The baby might be coming early. As soon as she got up, she felt as if her back was about to give out. This was the last thing she expected.

ReplyDeleteCute baby will bring happiness to them!
ReplyDeleteYour opening line, "Hope hadn't expected all the help." speaks volumes. It really is touching how everyone in her friend group contributes something. And it's awfully bittersweet when Frankie shows up with her wish list crib. The part about the pains at the end was surprising -- although I don't know why, as I should know by now that you always bring the twists and turns! Also, thanks so much for your comment on my Friends post. I love Paul Rudd too (he's my favorite actor, actually), and I was tempted to write more about him but stopped myself because he wasn't in the reunion special. I love that Phoebe struggled with love but ended up with such a catch in the end!

ReplyDeleteThis story is full of heart, and love, and pain, and I don't even have words to express the emotion this shows. Thank you for reminding us the importance of friendship and love.
