When Roman got home from the rush of the morning at the coffee shop, he realized he should have said more to Kyle about his new place, and of course how was Hope? They'd said nothing about her situation. Evidently, all was well. Perhaps.
Naturally, after a shower, he was ready to take a nap, but he knew he wouldn't sleep later during the night. Damn, if caffeine didn't do that to him. He yawned hard, but managed to leave Kyle a message. Still, he felt bad he hadn't done more for his friend, other than move furniture.
"Do you think I'm the worst?" He texted LaLa about the matter. A few minutes later she texted back "What are you talking about?"
He nodded. She wouldn't know. Nor care. Still, she had not moved to the other room. Of course, he hadn't dared to fuss. As it was, they were getting along. Although, they might as well be night and day.
"What do you want for dinner?" He finally texted as if it was better to be a good roomie after all and not question his friendship with Kyle. It was true, they were moving in different directions and yet not.
"Your Mac and Cheese, of course," LaLa shot back. "And make it spicy with bacon bits too."
He nodded. Honestly, he didn't mind cooking for her. He knew she put in long hours at the hospital. Just as he was thinking about making a SPAM sandwich a knock came on the door.
Roman grimaced. Maybe they'd go away, but the knocking turned into banging. Roman winced more and cut the heat from the stove, leaving the SPAM slices lukewarm. He scratched the back of his neck wondering who it could be.
"Aunt Bea!" He practically shouted once he saw who it was. And she had a big suitcase with her. He sighed. She was his mom's youngest sister who was only a couple years older than him. He couldn't remember the last time he saw her.
"I heard you have a room for rent." She shrugged.
"What?" He didn't like the sound of this.
"That's what your woman told me." She pushed herself in, taking a look around the place.
"My woman?" Roman squinted as if this was all news to him.
"Yeah, the Frenchie, I work with at the hospital." Naturally, she snarled her nose as if she might have to take care of the hidden germs in this place. He knew she didn't like the smell of the candles they'd been burning of lavender and lemon.
She plopped herself on the couch and made herself at home. "I've left Marcus, you know."
"Oh," Roman nodded trying to think back to when she got married. He didn't think he knew this Marcus.
"Caught him cheating," Bea said nothing more of him.
"Well, is he alive?" He wanted to know. After all, there might be a body in that big suitcase of hers.
She only gave him the evil eye as she hugged herself hard.
"Do you want a SPAM sandwich?" was his next question.
"You know, I can't eat crap like that," she snapped. She got up to look in the fridge. She got out the fixings to make herself a salad.

Nie lubię takich niespodziewanych gości, których trzeba ugościć
ReplyDeleteI do not like such unexpected guests, which need to be hosted
DeleteJust as things seem to be settling down for Roman -- in swoops an unwanted guest! This Aunt Bea makes me think of those meddling aunts on that Progressive commercial! As always, I enjoy how you incorporate humor into what's sure to be a tense situation: '"Well, is he alive?" He wanted to know. After all, there might be a body in that big suitcase of hers.'
ReplyDeleteThere is always something going on with Roman. Aunt Bea sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteWatta surprise a nosy, gossipy aunt!
