"This is just crazy?" LaLa didn't mean to sound crazy herself, but to have a brother show up so unexpected ..that you didn't even really know..now that was crazy in her book. Of course, she felt happy to know that Caitlin was the first to call her about it. Not just a text. Seriously, as much as this girl texted in her world she was always happy to get a phone call from a friend. "So what are you going to do?"
"I guess..hang out," Caitlin mentioned her dad was sick, but she hadn't seen him yet. It was just a shock to her, getting used to the fact that she had an older brother.
"Does this mean, you'll get to see your younger brother, too?" LaLa wanted to know. She couldn't help but envy Caitlin just a little. LaLa had always wanted to meet her family, but it had never happened.
"Maybe, Mario would like that," Caitlin told her, but even in her tone LaLa could tell she didn't really want to have that much to do with her family.
"You don't know how lucky you are," LaLa said without meaning too.
"I know." But Caitlin sounded sad. "There..there is this other thing."
"What other thing?" LaLa asked as she went to pour herself a glass of wine.
"My..my friend died of COVID and..and we didn't even know," Caitlin blurted. "It happened months ago."
"What?" LaLa winced hard. That didn't sound right.
"We..we weren't really family, but my old roommate worked for him..and ..and I just thought we would have..you know.." Caitlin's voice teared up.
"Are you OK? Do you want me to come over?" LaLa was concerned.
"We're at Megan's, where I used to live," Caitlin told her the address. Just then Roman came home. She got off the phone and told him where they were going.
"I have to go?"
"Of course, you do." She said they'd stop by the big deli and bring some cold cuts and cold salads.
"I dunno if I even know these people." He looked at her kind of funny.
"Of course, you do. It's where Kyle used to live." She looked at him as if he truly was an idiot, but she slept with him anyway.

ReplyDeleteloved the post, thanks for sharing it. Kisses
DeleteAs ever, you are the master at writing the perfect last line: "She looked at him as if he truly was an idiot, but she slept with him anyway." It's so funny and simple but speaks volumes. As for Caitlin, it's good that she can talk to LaLa. She's got a lot to work through.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, thanks so much for your comments. I know just what you mean about those songs that get you sobbing; for me, a big one is Dire Straits' "Romeo and Juliet." It's a shame that you missed out on seeing Brian play; maybe you'll catch him one day (when he's healthy).
A very long story to read for, i will complete it by tonight. Thank youu :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment! I have left a link for the beginning of this story!
