It was the Fourth and Megan felt as if she was just going through the motions as she was putting the muffin mix together. As it was Cori was more stoic than ever and she knew to let it be. At least for the moment.
Mario, Caitlin's brother was staying in Hope's old room and Caitlin and Deano spent the night in Caitlin's old room.
It felt nostalgic, yet not. There were thoughts of Melvin and what should be done, but it was a holiday too.
They'd had some fun times with Roman and LaLa over. Megan was glad she got to know them better and yet a certain sadness remained. In spite of good food and laughter, she felt a little guilty.
Megan popped the muffin tin in the oven. She had no idea where the day would lead. The pizzeria was closed. It should be a vacation, but Cori was still asleep. Unfortunately, he'd tossed and turned all night.
As she poured herself a cup of coffee, there was Mario standing in the kitchen doorway. She got him a cup and served him first. He drank his coffee black. Finally, they made their way to the dining table.
"So was this guy, Melvin...an old boyfriend of Cait's?" He wanted to know, although she could tell he hated to ask.
"No, not really." Megan tried to be closed-lipped. "Maybe..maybe that's what Melvin had wanted, but it never happened. They were friends."
Suddenly, the memory of meeting Melvin for the first time made Megan smile.
"What is it?"
"Oh, it's too silly," she almost laughed, but of course she had to tell him how she thought she'd met a celebrity at Whole Foods. "I even had to have my photo taken with him and then he says, 'Now don't you post this anywhere, I can't let anyone know I've actually been here.' "
"But what if was Harry Styles?" Mario looked at her as if it might be a better memory than she imagined.
"I know it wasn't him." She was dead serious. Melvin didn't have that many tattoos.
How much would I give to sleep long on vacation :)
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing like having such funny memories :)
Interesting
ReplyDeleteVery fine :)
ReplyDeleteAhhhhhhhhhh! I just found out about the whole Melvin-Harry Styles connection, and how here's Megan referencing Harry in this chapter! The last line is everything: '"I know it wasn't him." She was dead serious. Melvin didn't have that many tattoos." As always, I so love your mix of depth and deadpan humor.
ReplyDeleteMe caía bien Melvin, era un buen personaje. Lástima que murió y que nunca pudo conquistar Caitlin Genial fragmento, te mando un beso
