Caitlin felt sure there was something she should be doing but it felt as if everything had stopped when she heard the news about Hope.
"Why am I so unorganized?" Life hadn't been the same since moving back to the old place. It was cramped. Everyone was so sidetracked. And now it felt as if Mario moved in with Cori because they were over at Melvin's apartment night and day.
"Oh, you know where everything is when you need it," Deano looked at her with a yawn. He was tired too. He'd spent a lot of days with Caitlin's dad when neither Mario nor she could. He was on break from the University.
"No, I don't." She winced as if he needed to be making lunch for her instead of talking in the kitchen while he made chicken salad.
"Maybe you should talk to Tori," he shrugged.
"Tori?" She didn't understand.
"Well, she's the one who called us about the baby." Deano looked at her as if she was far too busy to even know.
"Oh." Still, she knew they needed to organize some sort of party. "What do you call those things?"
"Baby shower." He put a nice fat sandwich together for her lunch and added a granola bar he'd baked for her lunch box. "We already got together and gave them loads of disposable diapers."
"How could I forget that," she was rubbing her left eye as if she really needed some downtime which meant a very long afternoon nap. But it would have to wait. After all, it was only six in the morning. It was true there was so much stuff in her life to keep up with. Why couldn't she unwind when she was supposed to.
"Let's give them a week or two," Deano said about the Hope's baby matter. "They need some downtime too." He told her he texted Kyle every day for the lowdown and of course a daily photo. He showed her the picture from the day before.
"How do you do it? How can you-"
"Oh, it doesn't really matter how," he smiled and coaxed her to get her sweater. She'd be cold by mid-morning in the air conditioned building she was in. He was driving her to work.
Welcome August!

ReplyDeleteNice dear!!!
ReplyDeleteFabulous post
ReplyDeleteHola!! ya me he perdido algunos capítulos, por andar desaparecida, pero este me gustó mucho
ReplyDelete¡Ay! Me ha encantado ♥
ReplyDeleteDeano takes such good care of Caitlin! Lunch, a sweater, a drive, and a homemade granola bar?! No wonder she wants to marry him. I also think it's funny that he's the one who remembers what a baby shower's called.
ReplyDeleteNow that you mention it, yes, Hope looks a little different. A little younger or naïve, maybe. Although becoming a mom matures you (or so I've heard), I imagine that it also makes you more vulnerable, so that fits. Finally, I can completely identify with Caitlin's need to take a nap even after just waking up! As a night owl, I too often feel as if I want to unwind at the wrong time. But then I think, we are who we are, and it's not like anyone ever died from a weird sleep schedule. Anyway, as always, terrific chapter. I love hearing more from Caitlin and Deano!
This chapter was an amazing read, and the relationship between Deano y Caitlin was conveyed masterfully.
