How about now

 "I know we need to get married," Megan called her grandmother, Meme while Cori was in the shower. 

"What happened?" Naturally, she thought Megan was pregnant.

"It's his insurance. I don't think they'll do anything for him, but if he's on mine-"

"That's a horrible reason to get married," Meme cut in as if people didn't marry for those kinds of reasons.

"Is it?" Megan bit back. She didn't want to listen to Meme's ideas. She'd have them flying out to Florida in a heartbeat. "I just want him to know we are family, but there is the pizzeria to take care of. And we are moving in the space up above it. He'll say we have to wait."

"I don't want you to wait." Finally something they could agree on. "I'll just come out there and make sure it's done myself."

"What?" It was as if Megan had opened a can of worms before she knew it. She hadn't even told her about his eye. Quickly, Megan told her about their emergency with his eyes. But he could still see. Maybe it was nothing, just like Cori said.

"Oh you kids, thinking you are so damn smart," Meme responded. "You need to listen to me-"

But of course, Megan wasn't. She was climbing in her leggings now and slipping on her oversized tunic. They needed to get to the doctor's appointment.

"I really have to go, Meme." Megan told her they were at least doing the right thing. Although, she wondered if going to the doctor was the wrong thing. Maybe they needed to go by the eye clinic too. "I have to go." She clicked off without saying goodbye and punched in the eye clinic contact. She wanted Cori to get the help he needed. After she made the phone call, she found herself calling Cori's brother. They needed to know about Cori's eye too.
