And then

When Caitlin awoke from a bad dream as in she'd only dreamed she was pregnant she immediately went to throw up. She winced with wet tears. Confused perhaps.

"Maybe I shouldn't go to the appointment after all," she cried out from the bathroom. What if she was truly too sick to go?

"What? We have to. We're going," Deano insisted. He'd taken the day off. "You're just nervous?"

She shook the thought. It was just a dream. But could it really be true?

Of course, after throwing up she scarfed down the egg sandwich that Deano made for her. It was a nine o'clock appointment and she was wasting time to get there.

Suddenly, she felt so sad as if she might be crazy. Her body just didn't seem to be like it was, but her throat didn't hurt.

"It's just nerves," Deano said, but Caitlin looked at him as if he had no idea.

Finally, they got there just to go through paperwork. Caitlin was exhausted. Where had all her energy gone? But first, there were blood tests, questions, a prescription for prenatal vitamins, and of course a trip down a long hall to get a sonogram.

"What if they don't find anything?" She wanted to ask as she laid back on the table where the nurse went to work and someone in a white coat came in to put the gel on her stomach. It gave Caitlin the shivers, but after all, she'd managed through the blood test. She knew for a fact she was going to go home and straight to bed. Maybe she wasn't as strong as she thought she was.

Deano held her hand through the whole process asking what she'd want for lunch. First, she said something with cheese. Mac'n Cheese, but then when they started she said she most definitely needed a burger.

When she heard the heartbeat she thought she was in a state of shock. But it felt dark in her stomach. Yet there it was. Like a seed. A beginning she guessed. She started to cry. Was it really true? She could feel Deano's excitement.

"It looks like your first tri-master is going good." The doctor said she was at the end of it. Even now, they could tell.

"It's a boy!" Caitlin sighed.

  3. So, it's a boy. I'm happy for Caitlin. It's understandable she is confused and emotional.

  4. I sympathize with Caitlin. I hate getting bloodwork done too, so I can only imagine how anxious I'd be if I were pregnant. I especially like how all of her emotional drama ends with the good news that she's having a healthy baby boy. It's very symbolic, a sign that everything's going to be okay. And Deano is as sweet as ever, feeding her all of her favorite foods. I'm glad to see that the cheese craving lives on!

Thanks so much for including my swan in your lovely collage! I also love the sticker-bedecked envelope and the Moschino My Little Pony phone case. And, of course, Turophile: Cheese Lover! A genius creation indeed. :)
