Liv could see the disappointment in Rico's eyes. He didn't say much after meeting Alex. Still, dinner was on with Rico's dad. She hoped they got through the dinner somehow.
Thankfully, Italian food made everything better. Liv could have stuffed herself on breadsticks and spaghetti sauce. Honestly, it was good to spend time with both of them. Somehow Rico's dad was full of laughter and she felt she needed to laugh too. While all along Rico was ever so serious.
"I don't know what you're so worried about," she said later when she helped him clean up. "Alex is just Alex." Honestly, she didn't depend on Alex, after all, there was always something going on.
"But," Rico reached for a dish towel to dry his hands and he turned to lean against the kitchen counter. "It's like Alex is a neighborhood of some kind."
"Well, it's not that.." she knew since it was just the two of them talking about Alex she could say what she wanted. "He."
"See. you said he?" Rico practically pointed his finger.
"It's not a personality disorder," She practically squinted. "He..he just can't decide. So, I dunno. Usually, he shuts everyone off." She hugged herself then. "We were in homeroom back in middle school. And, and I dunno if we were even friends then, but sometimes..you know, we would talk about TV shows and that kind of thing." She then mentioned how Alex went to his Dad's at Christmas and wanted to live with him, but it didn't happen evidently.
"It's not like we're best friends." She looked Rico in the eye. "I know who my best friend is."
"Who?" It was as if he didn't have a clue.
"You." She laughed and then said she was going to bake him something. After all, he'd done a lot for her on Valentine's Day so she made him brownies at his house.
It was a very pleasant evening for Valentines Day. I like to read the stories, they are excellently written!

ReplyDeleteIn the collage, I'm living for that Hey Arnold! bucket hat and old school My Little Pony keychain! I hate how the new ponies are all angular, like runway model versions of the rounder ones we (well, okay I -- I'm not sure how old you are!) grew up with.
