Friends always

They had done a lot of talking and grocery shopping. LaLa felt Paulie didn't leave one page unturned about her life story now. How had he done it? Getting her talk about when she was growing up and the places she'd been. All for this damn dinner party.

She wanted to be cool about it, but she was never calm about these things. Naturally, Roman came over the day before to help. He and Eddie moved things around so it would be ready for a crowd. Honestly, LaLa was afraid it was too many people.

"Nonsense," Paulie told her.

"But..but.." Lala feared getting sick again. But the party was on and everyone showed up. Caitlin and Deano brought a plate of deviled eggs and of course some beer and bottled water. Even Mario and Bren showed up with bite-sized brownies and more chips. Naturally, Bea brought a salad and a veggie tray. Of course, there was plenty to eat. And Frankie was always handy with wine.

Everyone seemed to be at ease with each other. Maybe she should have invited more, but their place wasn't that big.

"How's Megan and Cori doing?" She asked, maybe just to be nice. Although, she didn't know if she should say the word wedding. No one was getting married here, anytime soon..she didn't think.

"The wedding is coming along," Mario spoke up first. Then Caitlin mentioned she was helping Hope and Tori with a wedding shower.

"You two should come to that," Caitlin said as she was snacking on celery and hummus.

LaLa just kept smiling. Honestly, everything had changed. There Mario was holding hands with Bren, but she was nice. Yes, Mario had met a nice person.

She hated to be full of resentment, but somehow LaLa felt she'd missed all the cues. What had clicked with those two? Still, when she looked back at Paulie, she knew she was where she was supposed to be and she couldn't go back now. There was no reason to. It was good to be with someone who was amazing as Paulie.

She loved how he was. She loved how he made her feel loved. But still, she wished she could be better. Would she always feel this way about herself?

  1. Feeling some insecurities is normal. I think we all feel the way Lala feels sometimes, wishing we were better even when things are going generally well. Nice chapter.

  4. Lala's not alone! Who among us isn't plagued by the old woulda-shoulda-coulda? I'm glad that she has Paulie and realizes how special he is: "Still, when she looked back at Paulie, she knew she was where she was supposed to be and she couldn't go back now."

I love Lala's tube top in the collage!

Glad to hear you're starting to see some green in Nebraska too. I'm with you; I can't wait for dandelions! :)
