champagne troubles

 Cyrus felt he was in some sort of limbo. Oh, he was happy for Deano and Caitlin. It was a sweet evening. But he knew Pixie had something on her mind. And it wasn't about the wedding.

It felt she'd been indifferent for some time now. But she was still here. Just a little quieter.

"What? You aren't thinking of moving back to Frankie's are you?" He'd asked a few days ago. Of course, she'd reminded him that Frankie and Bea had Andrew now.

"Did Bea actually move in?" Cyrus always felt one step behind. He hated to ask. He knew Pixie was on the phone a lot with Frankie lately. What was that about? Why wouldn't she tell him anything?

"Is it the wedding?" He wanted to know if that was what was troubling her.

"Wedding? Why would a wedding bother me?" She looked a bit angst about it when he'd asked. Seriously, it felt like an empty conversation with her.

"It's me, isn't it?" He finally asked that night after the wedding when the party was winding down. She'd had a few glasses of champagne. Of course, she was walking clumsy and he had to catch her from falling. She'd only looked up at him with a smile as if he wasn't really Cyrus after all.

Sure, it shocked him. Of course, lately everything was so stop and go and really he did feel lost. Why would it always be this way? Would they ever be anything more than friends? Were they even friends lately?

But that night changed everything. It was meant to be. Maybe. Oh, it was quite a new road. Especially, for Cyrus. 

It wasn't until later that he thought..oh so this is what lovers do.

She didn't just sleep with him. Sure, he'd squeezed his eyes shut as if he was ready for the most thrilling roller coaster of his life. And she'd smiled down at him as if he was in for something quite electric. Yes, she'd kissed him places he didn't know you were supposed to kiss.

True, it was mind-boggling afterward. It didn't seem that she knew of it. And what was once the key to the mystery of happiness was now just a sad feeling.

It might never happen again.
