Not a storybook ending but I'm fine with that

"So if you want to bring someone," Sammie pressed a smile as she handed Rico the bacon sandwich. "I mean, you don't have to." She talked about how it was the first time any of her artwork was ever in a gallery. Even if it was at the University.

She thought of Vada then. Sammie hoped Rico hadn't fallen for her. If only she could think of someone who wasn't such a guy magnet. Sure, she loved Vada's fun personality, but it was as if she wasn't having fun unless she had a crowd of guys around her. She knew Gabe wasn't fond of her.

"I know someone," Rico nodded then. "I'll be there."

"You know, someone?" Sammie looked at him puzzled, but he ate the sandwich dripping with mayo and tomato with pleasure.

Sammie went to make another, but Gabe handed her a sandwich with chips. He'd take over, in case Rico needed another.

"So who is this someone?" Gabe read her mind. They all sat at the breakfast bar eating dinner along with homemade potato chips from the airfryer.

"Oh, we just work together," he shrugged. "Carmen is pretty quiet, but I really like working with her."

Gabe smiled at Sammie.

"I can't wait to meet her," Sammie was relieved that Rico was really OK without Liv. She knew it was hard on him, these last few weeks, but he just kept going.

She remembered the day it happened, he'd called her long after midnight, just crying on the phone. She couldn't even think what he'd blubbered, but she knew it hit him so hard. It took him a good two weeks to even eat again. It was good to see him enjoying a meal, even if it was nothing fancy.

"So, so you're still babysitting?" Rico asked.

"Oh, only in the afternoons," she shrugged. "It's not a big deal. I mean, Deano likes to make me think I'm a miracle worker, but I really like Abby, even if I don't really get to see her that much. Somehow, between the two of us, everything is fine."

"When do you do art?" He wanted to know.

"Oh, whenever I can squeeze it in," she told him.

"Every night, actually," Gabe said. "Sometimes, I know she can't sleep and she's always drawing, sometimes she paints."

"But I like it like this," Sammie smiled. Somehow, she knew if she had too much time she might never get anything done.

  2. That last line- there's a bit of wisdom there. We often long for more time but in my experience sometimes when I have more time I still struggle with doing what I want to do!

Little bacon fryin up in the pan there... :) Man, that sandwich sounds delish!!!

    1. Everything is better with bacon (✿◡‿◡) Oh, I think squeezing in a time for art is always possible. And I have heard it is always great to have a project to work on too. Of course, I am not very good with timing, but I try better. I remember going to a craft once at the library where we to make sock creatures. So I had spent a week watching YOUTUBE and I made a few just to see if I could understand it. So there I was making one after another and the friend who went with me who just kept talking, didn't get one made. Also, I realized the person teaching the class couldn't give you real guidelines on how to make anything. Her moto was, "Oh just have fun." And maybe that's the golden rule. Whatever art you might do. Just have fun.

    2. That's how writing is for me. I've always enjoyed it but only in the last few years have I really done it. Making up for lost time! But I think you're right- ut has to be fun. Writing can be intimidating but when I finish a chapter or have a gotcha moment- those are the best!

      And yes more bacon!!!!!

  8. I'm so happy for Sammie! I love that she's having an art show and that she squeezes her art in whenever she can. It's so relatable, because we always find time to do the things we truly love. I'm also glad that Rico's doing okay. Also, those homemade potato chips sound delicious! 🎨πŸ₯“πŸ₯”πŸ…

That's funny about the mating ravens in your yard. 'Tis the season, I guess! In the spring and summer, we have this bird here that's always singing, and it's very annoying. Maybe because it makes a kind of mocking sound. Anyway, it really gets to me, which the husband thinks is hilarious. He's much more of an animal person than I am! πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€πŸš«πŸŽ΅
