Not another word

 Vada really wanted to listen to Sammie, but Sammie didn't have any idea what she was going through. Especially, with Justin. Why did she have to be attracted to him? Why did things have to become so.. she sighed at the thought. Alienated. It was like she needed to make a choice and she just couldn't because she always came back to Justin.

"You should take that assistant job," Sammie told her. 

"Why should I?" Vada sounded mad as she hugged herself.

"It's the art department," Sammie smiled as her dark eyes of wonder prevailed the truth that she did believe in her friend.

"But..but I ..I'm not even an artist," Vada finally confessed as she touched the throat of her professional attire that always inspired confidence.

"But you know Art. You know, good art."

Sammie's smile was open, as they bought bobble tea and walked down the campus sidewalk near the gardens. It was perfect weather to be outside as the warmth of the sunshine gave a positive energy.

"Oh, you'd jump on the chance, now wouldn't you?" Sammie went on to say as she sipped her cold drink.

 Vada drew a small frown. Yes, finally an opportunity. Benefits included, insurance and vacation.

"What are you waiting for?" Sammie didn't know. 

Sammie had been over to Justin and Vada's place lately. She'd taught him a lot about eggs and even showed him some tricks with pasta to keep them in meals all week. Yes, Sammie was a gift and maybe Vada didn't deserve her friendship. After all, Sammie could spruce up a hairdo or modify one of Vada's old suits into something high-end.

"You know," Vada squinted hard. That professor had his eye on her. "What if?" If it could have been anyone else to offer her this position. "I can't. I just can't."

Sammie nodded as if she understood. "You're afraid, aren't you?"

Vada didn't like that question. "Of course, not." She picked up her phone and sent the information they'd wanted in an e-mail to make the job hers.
