little tremors

 How? How did he know?

Caitlin kept tossing and turning all night in her own bed. Melvin only walked her home after pie and coffee. He held her so close she thought she might suffocate. She was torn now, what was he to her..actually?

Yes, she hated the fact that Dylan spoke to Tori. Naturally, they hit it off from the get-go at the after-party. Before she knew it, it was like she wasn't even there. It made her nauseous. When she looked over her shoulder and saw Tommy, as if he was seriously waiting for her to come over, it felt so right. And then Melvin interrupted.

She mulled his words over from the wee hours of the morning. There was no peace now. "You think I'm a  womanizer, don't you?" His questions were so sensitive even now the words stung her ears. "But I'm not. I'm not like that at all. It's just been me and my mom and..and I respect women a lot. You just don't seem to see that."

He also told her she'd made him nervous, but he'd wanted to meet her. "I thought you..I thought you could get me." He'd said and now it felt like a headache coming on. She wasn't sure she was up to such a massive task. It felt like a prison sentence somehow.

She shook her head, trying not to believe what Melvin said about Tommy, but HIV was a scary word. She gasped at the thought of such a disease.

Caitlin winced hard. She got up in her gray tank and boy undies. She raced to the bathroom, only the door was locked. She needed to pee. She needed to wash her face. Maybe brush her teeth. God, what was she thinking? Letting four people live here to share one bathroom.

Finally, Tori came out in her robe and airdrying her wet hair with a towel.

"Oh, it's you," she looked at Caitlin blankly. It was morning. The sun showed bright as if a new day had begun without her.

Caitlin looked her over and wanted to ask what magic potion did she give Melvin before the concert. It had changed him, or so Caitlin wanted to blame someone for Mel's new attitude. But nothing was said, Caitlin quickly relieved herself and wished she'd stayed and showered in the warm bathroom.

She went to make coffee. She'd need a strong cup because at the moment she was a little out of it. Her hair was a mess. Megan soon told her this who went to toast bread. Caitlin watched Megan reach for the jam and peanutbutter.

"Did you want some?" Megan finally asked.

"Just..how..how do you do it?" Caitlin wasn't sure she could ever be a full-time girlfriend, especially to Melvin.

"Do what?" Megan looked at her blankly. She was in her underwear and MY LLAMA HAS NO DRAMA tee that barely hit her belly button.

"Oh, don't play games with me?" Caitlin snarled. Megan made peanut butter and jam toast for Caitlin first and heated more bread.

"What games? What are you talking about?" Megan winced.

"It's not a perfect world, you know," Caitlin said before she bit into the toast.

"Must you be so dramatic? What did Melvin do now?" Megan asked, but still sleepy-eyed. She got the bottle of homemade milk tea out of the fridge.

"You just don't understand me," Caitlin was bitter.

"You're right, I don't," Megan was solemn. "You never really talk to me unless you can tell me what I'm doing wrong. It's amazing we are sort of friends, but I don't think you really like me."

"How? How can you say that?" Caitlin's eyes lit. She thought they'd been friends for quite a long time now.

"Because, you aren't sure you even like yourself," Megan left with a paper plate of toast and jam. Breakfast would be served in bed.

Caitlin hated the fact that Megan knew she was her own worst enemy.
