What's the deal

Honestly, a part of Caitlin wanted to just take a dump in Melvin's bathroom and leave, but she did have needs. And the fact remained, as lovely as Wade was to adore, he definitely did nothing for her. Some things were worth holding a grudge, like Melvin being married. However, maybe this was a truce of some kind.

Of course, Melvin had the goods. It was a fact they both loved something and it was a good thing to share. She guessed.

"Did you call your Dad for Thanksgiving?" Melvin asked while they partook of their own special Thanksgiving.

Caitlin only sighed. Why would he bring him up? She didn't answer, sitting on the floor leaning against his old couch. She looked around. The place was cleaner than she expected. Maybe he knew all along she was coming.

"What's the point?" She might have smiled, but she didn't mean to. "I'm a lot like him." He hadn't stayed with her mom long. After all, he was sort of a musician or the fact he knew musicians. She stayed with him every other week when she was small. It made her angry now that she couldn't remember what her own room looked like back then. She wasn't nearly as fond of the arrangement as her parents were. It was like living in a rocky boat and each wanting her to come over and see what was happening at their place. Not that either cared what was happening to her.

Now her mom had a passel of kids she'd gotten in a packaged deal when she remarried. Caitlin's dad had a son in San Antonio, but Caitlin never met him and didn't want to. They might as well be strangers now. Melvin was no different. He was strange. It wasn't that big of a deal, was it?

"So what did you do for Thanksgiving?" She asked but didn't expect an answer other than, nothing.

She nodded.

"You didn't kill your wife or anything, did you?" It felt like a casual question. Of course, it only made her laugh when she said it. Possibly, she was getting higher much quicker than expected.

"What?" He almost got up from the floor but only slumped more toward her. She laughed a little more. He laughed too.

"I don't really care, if you're married or not," Caitlin took another drag off the bong and puffed out some beautiful smoke rings.

He held in a laugh as if she'd lost it already, but Caitlin was serious. "Just don't be a killer." She looked around to see if there might be a freezer that would hold a body. There wasn't. This was when she told him she was only his pot buddy and nothing more. But he kissed her anyway. Possibly, she liked his answer better.

  1. I imagine that a kiss can be a good answer at times. Very fun chapter. These two have chemistry together.
