Here we are again

 "I'm really sorry I lied to you," Kyle said to Roman down at the coffee shop when they were in a lull after the morning rush. Actually, this had nothing to do with Roman, but still he was sorry. Hope was on his mind.

"What lie?" Roman squinted and looked at Kyle as if he hadn't a clue.

"Oh, you know," must he explain it to him. "You know Hope is my roommate."

Roman chuckled and gave Kyle a pat on the back. "It's fine. Don't worry bro."

Kyle felt slightly relieved but not really.

"Hey, you aren't coming down with something, are you?" Roman looked him over.

"No, I'm..I'm good."

"Are you sure?" Roman pressed a smile as if he knew everything all ready.

"Well-"

"I can dig it man, I know you two are really into each other." Roman said all cool as he got out a cigarette. They were on break and out against the back wall of the establishment in the warm sun.

 The cigarette was homemade. He lit it up and took a drag and handed it to Kyle.

He squinted hard and took a drag. "Fuck, what did you put in this?" Kyle choked on the smoke and leaned back against the brick wall and focused his eyes.

"A  little of this and that," Roman shrugged. "You seen the price of cigarettes lately?"

Kyle only coughed and shook his head, no.

"LaLa made it anyway," he sounded as if they'd hit off, somehow. "It can't be that bad."

Kyle was wide-eyed now.

"So, what's going on with you and Hope?" Roman looked at him as he took another drag or two, puffing smoke rings like he might have down to an art.

"Well.." Kyle didn't really know how to explain it. "We..we slept together." He wanted to say he didn't want it to ever happen again, and yet he knew that was a lie too. He scratched the back of his head. "I mean, she is pregnant, you know."

Roman only yawned, and said, "Pregnant people have sex all the time." He handed the cigarette to Kyle and he took another drag. This time he was used it's bite.
