Bring it on

Caitlin felt she was in a lull of some kind. If she had COVID it didn't bother her, really. Thankfully. She kept getting negatives on the at-home tests. Possibly, she was A-symptomatic.

Deano had a headache for days. She let him squirm in bed alone. She'd taken refuge on the couch and called into work every day to see what was up and if she could do anything from home. She knew she was meant to keep going.

But then the hunger hit. She needed something. Something special.

"I want that cheeseball," she called Mario.

"What?" Mario sounded as if he didn't know what she meant.

"From Christmas."

"Christmas?" Mario told her that she'd eaten it all. "I didn't even get to try it."

"Well, tell Bren to make another one," Caitlin said she'd pay for it. She wasn't sure why she needed cheese in her life, but the cheeseball hit the spot.

"You gotta be careful," Mario said she was pregnant and pregnant people needed a healthy diet.

"What's so wrong with a cheeseball?" She wanted to know. "There are nuts and cheese."

"Right." Naturally, Mario asked about Deano. Was she feeding him anything? Did they need to bring anything?

"He can only keep some broth down, or he did, but he's moved on to mushroom soup," Caitlin assured him that Deano's fever was gone and his head felt better. He was terribly tired. and then she begged Mario to bring the cheeseball.

"I'm buying you some groceries," Mario said he'd leave it at their door.

  1. Oh, Caitlin! I'm glad she's okay, even if she's jonesing for dairy. This is so funny, Ellie: "She wasn't sure why she needed cheese in her life, but the cheeseball hit the spot." I know that Mario's right about her needing to eat healthy, but I'd be annoyed if I were her too!

    1. Eating habits do change, especially during pregnancy. And sometimes, just the idea of eating for two means.."I need my protein or my Dairy!"

  2. Sometimes food cravings are our body's way of telling us what it wants. So, maybe cheeseball is what she needs. A bit of comfort food never killed anybody.

    1. Yes, food cravings can be fun. And the stories I have heard over the years. How one mom only wanted burgers and her son still only likes meat and fruit. I had one friend who could only keep down Dr. Pepper. Another who only wanted anything chocolate.

  3. Sometimes there are even cravings like that without being pregnant. In pregnant women it must be very strong! :)
