Really, LaLa didn't know what to make of the situation with what had Caitlin so upset.
"What are you trying to say? Deano and this..um..woman were into something?" LaLa asked, thinking it was best to be on Caitlin's side (because Cait was upset evidently). They were hanging out at the coffee house where Roman (her so-called freaking gay ex) used to work, but she and Cait were having healthy smoothies and sitting in the back corner in the late afternoon.
"He won't tell me anything about Ali," Caitlin said about Deano. In her eyes, if he wasn't talking about this..then something had to have happened.
"But..but you might be wrong. He said he had an art class with her," LaLa thought Caitlin was making too much of the situation. Evidently, she'd had more excuses to eat because LaLa thought Caitlin was putting on too much weight. Although, she wouldn't dare say it.
"Yeah, but there has to be something more," Caitlin looked at her as if she needed LaLa to figure out this mystery. "Why did he mention it to me?" Caitlin looked at her practically sideways as she drew a frown.
All LaLa could think about was how Caitlin was filling up those rose-colored sweat pants and sweater. Oh, she really didn't know this woman anymore. Had Caitlin noticed the change? Why wasn't she worried about her health?
"What have you been eating lately?" LaLa found herself changing the subject.
"I dunno." Caitlin was even lipped about it. "Food."
"When was your last check-up?" LaLa didn't want to alarm her.
"I can't remember. They sounded like they didn't need to see me every month." Caitlin mentioned something about due to COVID.
LaLa nodded. She hated to tell her she was going to be in for a big surprise. She bet they wanted Caitlin to stop eating everything in sight.
"Look, if they told you, you were a gestation diabetic, what would you do? Could you change your eating habits?" LaLa went on to ask even if she didn't want to worry Caitlin. LaLa felt someone should.
"What are you talking about?" Caitlin winced as if it was all foreign to her.
"Um, I'm just remembering someone," LaLa couldn't look at her. She played with her peach smoothie with her fat straw and then took a sip. "She didn't have to take shots, but she did have to take a lot of stick tests and she had to stop eating most anything white, like potatoes, rice, and bread. But sometimes, she could get away with a baked potato. It was the bread she had to worry the most about her blood sugar rising. Oh, and dairy."
"What are you trying to tell me?" Caitlin looked at her as if LaLa was scaring her.
"What you eat now will affect the baby later," LaLa said she didn't have good teeth.
"They look perfect to me." Caitlin shrugged.
LaLa only smiled. "I mean as in cavities. My mom ate a lot of unhealthy things when she was pregnant with me. While her friend who never had sugar and had mostly a veg and protein diet..well, her daughter never had a cavity until she was almost thirty."
"Why didn't you tell me this before?" Caitlin pushed her smoothie away and took a drink from her water bottle.
"I'm sorry," LaLa did her best to smile. "You know me, I'm always late to the party."
Very interesting 😊

Oooh, I feel terrible for Caitlin. I knew someone with gestational diabetes, and it was so hard to deal with. It's such a cruel joke, just when you want and need to eat the most, you have to cut out everything. So I'm keeping good thoughts for Caitlin. As for the Deano bit, I think (hope?) that it'll turn out to be a heap of nonsense. He's as true blue a bf as there is. :)
