how can we talk about this?

"She's fine, right?" LaLa was actually shocked she'd talked on the phone this long to Deano who was giving her an update about Caitlin.

"I think she's kind of in shell shock," Deano almost laughed. "She knows she has to get through this somehow. I know she'll do just fine. She's a little scared, but I think she'll do fine once she delivers the baby. We even signed up for some birthing classes at the hospital.

"Birthing classes?" LaLa made a face of disgust. He made it sound like she might have the baby at home.

"It's just some breathing exercises," Deano assured her. "I'll probably need them more than she will."

Oh, he was trying to be cute, but it wasn't working on LaLa. "She's just anxious. Maybe I could come over." LaLa decided.

"That would be great," Deano then said she couldn't have too many over at once. He was also going to help the guys move Hope and Kyle to their new place.

LaLa only sighed. It seemed everyone was doing something these days. She was doing well enough not to have COVID again. She wanted to warn him of the dangers, but life had to keep going. "Oh, before I forget, how's Mario?"

"Mario?" Deano sounded as if she should not ask about him. "He's fine. He and Bren are fine."

"Good," she would have to leave it at that. It wasn't like she could just call and she never ran into him anymore. She hated this feeling. Somehow, she was not supposed to be in his world and he wasn't supposed to be in hers, either. Still, she thought about him from time to time. Yet, he really hadn't rushed into to running away with Bren.

Of course, she and Paulie hadn't decided on a wedding date. Anyway, he was always busy in the emergency room. Marriage was a long way off. It wasn't that she disliked him. He was so good to her. And of course, he was definitely adorable.

Yes, it was about time to erase Mario's name in her contacts. Now if she could erase him from her heart.

  1. Sounds like she's not entirely sure about Paulie. And she definitely has feelings for Mario, sounds like!

  4. Wow, another twist, LaLa still pining for Mario despite being engaged to Paulie. What you write here really brings home her angst: "Somehow, she was not supposed to be in his world and he wasn't supposed to be in hers, either. Still, she thought about him from time to time." I like Mario and Bren together. But I also don't think LaLa should marry Paulie, a guy she describes as someone she "doesn't dislike." Ouch!

Thanks so much for including my florals in your collage! I love how you added the butterflies. They're perfect and also yellow, my favorite color. 💛

Also, thanks so much for your comments. Aren't Dollar Tree book finds the best? The short story collection by Marni Jackson sounds like a real gem, especially the story about the aspiring writer being mentored by John Updike. How cool would that be?! I also love how you mentioned Updike's theory of making the mundane extraordinary. Look at that, him and Van Gogh on the same page (and canvas). 📚🎨
