So that's how it is

"What? You're moving?" Megan looked in a state of shock. Granted she was in the melon aisle at the grocery store when she met Hope and Kyle. It felt like forever since she'd seen them even if they were at the wedding. It was just they hadn't spent quality time together.

"Oh, we're not going anywhere," Hope told her. "We found a house." But it was in the burbs. Just fifteen minutes away down the freeway.

Still, Megan felt sad. "When did you decide this?" She winced holding on to her empty cart while baby Jewel sat in their cart kicking her feet.

"We've needed to do this for a while." Their little one was walking and she loved the outdoors. "Besides, we should. We can't live in that place forever. I know those in need, need it more and well, with a little help from Kyle's people.." She shrugged as if it were settled.

Megan nodded as if she understood. Suddenly, she felt she was among grownups and she wondered if she had anything grownup going on? Then she remembered with an open smile. "I do have something to tell you."

Naturally, Hope smiled when she told them the news. Kyle gave her a pat on the back, kind of a half hug.

"And..and we have Cora too."

"Still?" They both looked shocked. They didn't seem to think that was fair.

"Oh, she is a handful, but you know.." Megan sighed with a smile. "When it rains it pours." She felt as if she was on a bit of a vacay just being in the store all by herself. Of course, she felt lost.

They asked about Meme and Cori too. They talked of Caitlin and Deano then.

"Do you think they'll move to the burbs?" After all, his condo was rather small. And it wouldn't be long until the baby arrived.

"Probably," Megan nodded. But she didn't think they would do anything until after the birth.

Suddenly, Megan noticed their couple rings. They were only silver bands. It looked official, somehow.

"When did this happen?" She winced

"Oh, that," Hope bit a grin as she raked her fingers through her dark hair.

"Actually, back in late April," Kyle told her. "We were visiting my grandpa back on the Rez. And decided just to go ahead and do it while he was able to be there."

"Why didn't you tell us?" Megan looked a little hurt that they hadn't done anything for them.

"It's all right. We wanted some quiet," Hope told her. "We like it this way."

Megan felt teary-eyed. "Can you at least come over for dinner, sometime?"

"Of course," Hope grinned. "You are one of my best friends, you know."

Megan nodded. She wasn't certain of that. They'd probably told Tori long ago, and of course, she wasn't one to tell anyone anything.

  5. I think we've all felt like Megan sometimes, as if everyone's moving on -- literally, figuratively, or both! -- without us. It's hard. But then, things are changing for Megan too. I hope she finds her balance. Something tells me that she will. :)

Beautiful black and yellow aesthetic in the collage!
